Discussion Questions

Encanto Reflection/Discussion Questions:

The main question each week is IN WHAT WAYS DOES THIS FILM INTERSECT WITH THE GOSPEL? HOW DID THE GOSPEL SPEAK THROUGH THIS FILM TO YOU?

The following questions have been prepared in anticipation of (but not limited to) what will be discussed in worship Sunday February 23rd:

  • How does the act of confession—both individually and communally—create space for healing and reconciliation? In what ways can we embrace vulnerability to restore broken relationships, both within the church and in the broader community?

  • James connects personal wholeness with communal wholeness. How do our individual actions and confessions affect the health of the entire community? How can we ensure that we are not only addressing our personal needs but also contributing to the well-being of those around us?

  • In the context of the church and society, how can we confront difficult truths about past wrongs and injustices, similar to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission? What steps can we take to engage in collective confession and healing to move forward as a more united community?

  • Mirabel's honesty in Encanto opens the door for others to express their struggles. What personal or communal "secrets" are we holding onto, and how can we create a culture where truth-telling becomes a means of unity and strength rather than division?

  • Confession isn't just about admitting wrongs but also about confronting what threatens our unity. How can we practice the courage to speak the truth—both the things we've done and the things that have been done to us—in order to foster deeper connection and wholeness within our relationships and communities?
