Discussion Questions
The Jungle Book Reflection/Discussion Questions:
The main question each week is IN WHAT WAYS DOES THIS FILM INTERSECT WITH THE GOSPEL? HOW DID THE GOSPEL SPEAK THROUGH THIS FILM TO YOU?
The following questions have been prepared in anticipation of (but not limited to) what will be discussed in worship Sunday February 16th:
-
Jesus calls us to "abide in God’s love" and to love others as God has loved us. What does it mean to you personally to "abide" in God's love, and how can this change the way you interact with others daily?
-
In John 15:13, Jesus says, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." How can we apply this concept of sacrificial love in everyday life, beyond just grand gestures? Can you think of an example from your life or from someone you know?
-
Baloo and Bagheera from The Jungle Book are examples of sacrificial love—walking alongside Mowgli, teaching him, and protecting him in small, everyday ways. How can we, like them, live out a consistent, everyday love for those around us? What are some practical ways to “lay down our lives” in daily choices?
-
In the sermon, we considered love as not just about dramatic moments of sacrifice, but about continuous, smaller decisions to serve and prioritize others. How do you think living out this kind of love challenges our modern understanding of success and personal comfort?
-
How can the act of "laying down your life" for others, as described in John 15, be a form of community building? How can this principle influence how we approach issues like justice, compassion, and care for the marginalized?
